As in most other endeavors, when planning for your company's data storage solutions, it is better to not put all of your eggs in one basket. It is typically more productive to allow
all of your clients, regardless of operating platforms, access to all of your data at any given time and to take measures to prevent the loss or corruption of said data. IBM has made great strides in this milieu by allocating storage specific networks that can cut the risk of loss of data as well as
providing higher availability. By utilizing either iSCSI (Small Computer Systems Interface over Internet protocols) or NAS (Network Attached Storage) your company can achieve much greater control over the storage of your critical data. If you have a requirement for greater distance between locations,
perhaps a SAN (Storage Area Network) may be right for you. A SAN not only gives you more spatial flexibility but also provides more extensive fail over support, remote vaulting anywhere in the world, and much higher availability. By offering increased scalability, data sharing on multiple platforms,
and greatly improved backup/recovery, a SAN can help to decrease revenue loss due to loss or corruption of critical data as well as providing more data access to your end user client systems. Close this window |
